In This Case... Smaller Is Better

The great Kyle Gass once said, "I would rather play a small venue with 500 people, then a huge venue with 50,000 people." Why would a musician say this? Because it's all about the music, it's all about the fans, it's not about fame and fortune, even as nice as those things are.

When I think about Memphis Crawl, I don't think of Madison Square Garden, Giants Stadium, or The Stables Center. It's small local venues throughout the country that I see The Crawl playing in. While playing in a small venue, the band is able to connect with the audience more on a personal level as they melt the crowds face off. Personally speaking from experience, with several hefty medical bills to prove it! Not only is Memphis Crawl all about their fans, but they also care about the music, which is what Rock N' Roll truly is about! This is why Memphis Crawl is a very rare commodity in the music world today.

With a fair share of "musicians" today in our American society, it's all about how to get to the top, and how to make the most money on the way up. Now don't get me wrong, money is great, and helps a lot with the progress of the band, but that shouldn't be the soul purpose either. With great musical legends like The Doors, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones, it was their music that gave them their super-stardom status.

As a person obsessed with "good" music, there are very few bands who can now compete with Memphis Crawl. While "talkin' bout my generation", there were not a lot of true rock stars that I was able to grow up with, with very few exceptions such as Kurt Cobain and Serj Tankien. Memphis Crawl is a band that I've been able to follow religiously, as well as getting to know the entire band personally. For me, it's beyond a dream come true to be able to be a part of their reign as musical gods.

So without further ado, I present to you a rough cut for Memphis Crawl's first music video for their song Wildflower Annie from their EP Falling Down Against the Sun, so check it out!!!

Remember you saw it here first, and for all upcoming events, photos, videos, and info about The Crawl, be sure to come back and visit!

Memphis Crawl Live in NYC Baby!!!

Need plans for tomorrow night? I can't see any better way to spend a Friday night then seeing Memphis Crawl perform live at the National Underground in NYC from 11:00pm-1:00pm. This is one of the top venues in NYC to perform at and will definitely be one for the books. It will be a night filled with loud music, great people, and an epic band, so be sure not to miss it!

The last performance The Crawl had was last week at Painters Restaurant. It was a small intimate setting, not really the best venue for our Lords of the Loud. However, even still, they went in to the performance like they were playing The Garden. Even after numerous technical/personnel difficulties, the show still went on and rocked the house. Minds were blown, faces were melted, enough said.

Since I've become an avid follower of Memphis Crawl, it's like I've been welcomed into their family. This isn't just an amazing band we're talking about here, it's an amazing group of guys that have formed something rare that words will not do justice to. It's music, it's life, it's loud, and it's soul.

For those of you that are regular readers of this blog, you know how I am always discussing the importance of seeing The Crawl perform live. Well, I keep saying it, and I'll keep saying it until the whole world has heard and seen what music truly is.

So there are no excuses to not be at this show tomorrow night, drop what you're doing, forget the world series (It's lame anyway no one important is in it), and prepare yourself for an unforgettable musical experience. Blow some minds, melt some faces, and change some lives, here's to Memphis Crawl!

Memphis Crawl Live at Painters in Brookhaven TONIGHT!!!

Be sure to come on down to Painters Restaurant tonight at 9pm for another epic show by Memphis Crawl. The last show of them performing live I saw was at the Brickhouse Brewery in Patchogue, and that was a life changing show! There aren't many words that can describe seeing The Crawl, as I like to call them, live; but here are a few anyway: Epic, amazing, mind-blowing, unreal, just to name a few.

It's a Thursday night, turn off the tv, turn off the 360/PS3 and get your butt's down to Painters Restaurant! You don't know where it is, you say? How about some directions!

So come on down to see Matty, Bryan, Mike, and Mad for one of the greatest nights of your life! You don't know rock and roll, until you've seen Memphis Crawl doing a live performance. Every time I go they get better and better. The guys of The Crawl are constantly working to improve their art, and it shows. From originals like, "White Horse", "Wintertime", and "Wildflower Annie", to their amazing covers like The Beatles, "Don't Let Me Down", The Doors, "5 to 1", and their newest cover by The Rolling Stones, "Wild Horses".

If you don't believe me and you think I'm just a lunatic obsessed with the band, even though that's partially true, come on down and see for yourself what all the fuss is about, and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

White Horse Live at The Whiskey A GoGo

When I think of Memphis Crawl, I think of the bands intense soulful energy. This energy is captured and broadcasted wide spread among their music with every song that they play. The best example of that is with their original "White Horse". Memphis Crawl was able to perform live at one of the most famous and iconic venues of all time back in 2009, The Whiskey A GoGo. Here's a video of the band performing "White Horse" at that show. Hopefully you'll enjoy this as much as I did.

Review of Last Night's WRCN's Performance

Around 7:55pm last night I went on to WRCN.com anxiously awaiting Memphis Crawl's live performance. When 8pm finally rolled around, which seemed like forever, the disc jockey came on to introduce the band by saying they were setting up and proceeded to play some random classic blues. Once it got to 8:10 and my Memphis Crawl withdrawal was at its peak, a brief introduction was given by the one and only Matty O'Brien. After a few words, songs from their EP Falling Down Against The Sun were played.

Once "Wintertime", my personal favorite song from the ep, was over and a brief sound check, Memphis Crawl rushed right into their live performance starting off with "Wildflower Annie". Playing like it was their last chance to share their souls with the masses. Matty's vocals rang true to his usual gut busting ear blasting sound. Guitarist Bryan Stevens, and Bassist Mad Friek were at war with each other battling between epic riff to epic riff while drummer extraordinaire, Mike Vincenti wailed away repeatedly on his drum kit unaware of the repercussions to the listeners ears.

From their epic original "Whitehorse" to their flawless cover of The Beatles classic "Don't Let Me Down" it was a live performance for the books. Also mentioned on the show were upcoming performances for Oct/Nov, including their return to Brickhouse Brewery in Patchogue, plans for their east coast winter tour, as well as their hopes for recording a full length album shortly after the new year. All in all it was a night to remember!

Memphis Crawl Live at The Trash Bar!!!!

TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT!!! If you're looking for something to do, and you missed Memphis Crawl at The Velvet Lounge, which was epic beyond all reasoning, then head on down to the Trash Bar in Brooklyn tonight at 8pm.

It's been nearly three weeks since Memphis Crawl's last live performance and my ears are still ringing! They are by far the greatest live show to see right now as far as local bands go. You're not just listening to live music, every show is interactive between the band and the audience. Whether Matty O'Brien is throwing t-shirts at the crowd, or tossing pieces of his tambourine, which I proudly caught last show, it is an all out audio blitz.

For only $7 you're getting in to see not just Memphis Crawl, but three other bands as well. There will also be food and drink specials. Now we need to really step for The Crawl tonight, because if we can get 30+ people there, Trash Bar has promised to give Memphis Crawl the coveted weekend slot next time, so lets not disappoint and PACK THE FREAKIN' HOUSE TONIGHT!!!

To Matty and the rest of the crew, break 'em tonight and MELT SOME FACES!!!

Who is Memphis Crawl?

Just a brief bio of Memphis Crawl:

Matty O'Brien:

The founding father and driving force behind the band. His soulful songwriting courses through the veins of Memphis Crawl creating a unique sound. Continuously upholding a presence on stage like no other.

Weapon of Choice - Microphone

Bryan Stevens:

After joining the band early on in 2007, Bryan has continued to bring epic to the table. Shredding licks of incomprehensible proportions that will blow your mind if your not careful. Not only a visionary, but a master of performance.

Weapon of Choice - Guitar

Mad Friek:

With the band since its inception, Mad Friek has continually brought Memphis Crawl to higher levels musically. His bass riffs define the foundation of their unique sound that words can not properly pay homage to. Putting it simply, Mad Friek is the man.

Weapon of Choice - Bass

Mike Vincenti:

With Memphis Crawl since 2008, Mike Vincenti explodes rhythmically, melodically, musically, and beyond. Gnawing at the beats soul, providing a powerful force of his own personal style that compliments the bands sound. His energy out poured on stage will change your life.

Weapon of Choice - Drums

Together these four have transformed a sound and style with immense talent that can not be easily outdone. I give you... Memphis Crawl

The Great South Bay Music Festival

In my last post I briefly mentioned Memphis Crawls performance at The Great South Bay Music Festival, and since words can't really express how amazing the experience truly was, I decided to upload some videos from the festival.

After all, seeing is believing...

Let us build an army, an army for Memphis Crawl

Memphis Crawl

About a month and a half ago I attended The Great South Bay Music Festival, and besides hearing "Freebird" live with Artimus Pyle, discovering Memphis Crawl was the highlight of the weekend.

Memphis Crawl is a gritty hard rock and roll band led by front man Matty O'Brien, who has the greatest onstage presence since Jim Morrison. O'Brien is to the local underground scene as Tarantino is to film.

With the bands performing at the festival having a 4 song set, by the end of the first song I was craving an eternity. Memphis Crawl kept surprising the audience with musical epicness and blowing our minds. "Ok we got one more for you guys!" was repeated over and over, and 8 songs later they left the stage.

Here's a video clip of them performing their most popular song to date "Wildflower Annie":

Shortly after their set ended I was introduced to Matty O'Brien and was given an autographed copy of there newly released EP "Falling Down Against The Sun". Needless to say, it's a prized possession that I will cherish forever.

Since the festival, I've kept in contact with Matty "Soulman" O'Brien, talking about my love of Memphis Crawls music, and my experience watching them perform live at The Great South Bay Music Festival. Never have I met someone more in touch with their fans then Memphis Crawl. Memphis Crawls Facebook Page, which I implore you to join, is closely monitored by the band, and you will be sure to get a friendly response rather quickly.

Hopefully this short insight to the awesomeness that is Memphis Crawl has sunk into your skulls. The only way to capture the true essence of Memphis Crawl, is to see them live. They are by far the greatest live performance I've ever seen, and trust me when I say you need to see it to believe it. So be sure to come on down to their next live show, which is this Friday at The Velvet Lounge in Setauket.
